Cutup Friday: 2023 Lions Bang Pivot (pt. 1)
In week 14 against Chicago, Detroit had a good day reading out their Bang-Pivot concept. They paired it with a “Dusty” variation a few times. Dusty is a common term to describe a trips concept with #3 on a corner, with #1 and #2 running underneath routes.
2Q 15:00 and 2Q 0:30
The corner route gives the concept a little more versatility. It can become an alert against certain coverages/pressures while keeping the usual Bang-Pivot progression intact.
In the first example, the Bears take away the Bang-Pivot side with a robber into the Bang window, and tight outside leverage on the Pivot. Goff resets for the Over-The-Ball/Jerk route.
In the second example, the weak hook/robber defender works to the field with the fast motion, leaving the Bang window open for a touchdown in the red zone.
The video below shows nearly 10 minutes of Bang - Pivot cutups. Both examples drawn up here are included.
