Cutup Friday: 2020 Green Bay Packers Mesh
The Packers are the best “Mesh” team I have studied.
The Mesh concept is identified by the two shallow crossing routes intersecting over the ball at about 3 yards. Everybody has different rules for how the routes are taught and their framework within the overall concept. The next few images show a couple of the variations the Packers ran in 2020. In The 2020 Green Bay Packers Complete Offensive Manual, I diagram 13 different variations.
In The 2020 Green Bay Packers Complete Offensive Manual, I discuss why the concept worked well for the Packers. One particular reason is Rodgers made sure the Packers called Mesh into man coverage. Whether he checked into it or out of it, he made sure the Packers had the optimal look for it. The book also discusses why it failed them towards the end of the season, and how defenses adapted to defend it.
The next table shows the 2020 season stats for the concept.

The two videos below show about 21 minutes of the Packers running Mesh in 2020.
