Ben Johnson is a master of the Hi Cross concept.
Hi Cross is a family of concepts that centers around some sort of front side vertical element, with a Hi crossing route coming from the other side of the field. The accompanying routes and protections come in a wide variety, making it one of the most versatile concept families in all of football. It can be called in a drop back setting or off play action.
A specific family of variations that continues to grow in popularity is the “Wave” variation. This features two front side verticals.
Here are some of my favorite designs from Ben Johnson in 2024. The Lions have been a good Hi Cross team over the years, but they further evolved the concept in 2024.
