Klint Kubiak's "Wrap" Variations
The Wrap concept (or what I have referred to as Bang Pivot in the past) is a staple Shanahan design that attacks defenses quickly over the middle of the field.
Wrap is a two man hi-low concept in the weak hook window. It is a great 5-step pass concept that can generate big time yards after the catch opportunities.
The Bang route from the outside receiver is the primary on the play. This route has potential for a lot of yards after the catch, as it is an intermediate in-breaking route between layers of the defense. It usually breaks on the receiver’s 7th step.
The Pivot from the inside receiver is meant to hold down the hook defender. With a flat presence outside of him, he will settle down and sit at about 4 yards. If the defense is playing a form of man or quarters, with no outside flat presence, the Pivot route will break out.
Bang Pivot is usually called in a pure progression manner. Bang Pivot is the front side, with a back side 2 or 3 man concept to compliment it.

At 2Q 12:13 (week 7), Seattle calls a Bang Pivot Strong variation. They lock the Pivot on a Grab route, taking away the out-break element of the route. They do this because they have an intermediate out cut outside of the combination, coming in fast motion.
This adjustment changes how the offense accounts for the flat player. If the flat player helps on the Bang Grab combo, the Out (Z) will have a 1 on 1 after working across the field in motion. With a free release.
The Grab route pulls the Mike down and out in Houston’s cover 4 defense. The fast motion forces the near safety to widen a bit and get some depth. The fast motion forces some extra communication too.
