Cutup Friday: 2023 Lions Bang Pivot (pt. 2)
When I study a full season of a team, I try and find examples of the offense hitting back side receivers in a progression. This element of offense is often found with elite units, executed how it supposed to be. I found a good example for the Lions with their Bang-Pivot concept from week 1.
To convert a 3rd and 1 at 2nd Q 0:22, the Lions call Bang-Pivot with a back side jerk route.
The Chiefs call a neat drop-8 coverage. It is essentially cover 1 with two robbers. They take away the first read, the Bang-Pivot side, but the back side robber isn’t quick enough to get to the jerk route working into Goff’s vision. The safety seems to be anticipating a dig cut from the #2 receiver.
The video below shows 9 minutes of the Lions calling Bang Pivot.
