Cutup Friday: 2021 San Francisco 49ers Power - Down
While Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers are most commonly associated with their outside zone scheme, they will also feature gap runs every week. Power - Down is one of their most popular gap runs over the last three seasons.
Power - Down is a version of Power that can be called most commonly out of 21/22/13 personnel. The distinguishing element is the use of the front side tight end. This allows for an extra double team and better angles against Odd/5-Down fronts.
This was the 49ers go-to gap run in 2021. They have plenty of great teach tap examples of the concept.
