Cutup Friday: 2021 Browns Duo (2 TE)
The Cleveland Browns boast one of the NFL’s best rushing attacks. So far in 2023, they are the 2nd best rushing team in the NFL (by yards). In 2021, they finished the year 4th.
In 2021, Duo was one of their go-to play calls, especially when they wanted to attack a defense down hill.
The Browns averaged nearly 5 yards per carry on this version of Duo.
In The 2021 Cleveland Browns Complete Offensive Manual, I go into great detail on the coaching points of the concept, as well as what fronts the concept works best against. I also discuss how the Browns used formation variations and receiver splits to make the play all-purpose against any secondary action.
The Browns also ran a few neat variations, each discussed in the book too. The image below shows a Wrap version designed to ensure all secondary defenders are blocked on the front side of the run. this allows for big play potential, as this version is designed to bounce outside.
The Browns Manual was one of my favorite studies. I learned so much about run game constriction from watching their 2021 season. Click the link below if you are interested in a copy. The book is over 300 pages long, covers their entire offense, and is broken down by each concept they call.
