Ben Johnson Keeper Variation
Today we examine a Keeper - Delay concept from the Bears.
This was a unique call for the Bears, so it was not included in The 2025 Chicago Bears Complete Offensive Manual.
The concept does not have a first in the flat. Nearly every Keeper call has a first-in-the-flat. The design of this one looks to utilize the legs of the quarterback in a more direct way.
The Low Cross and QB run are meant to be the conflict for the flat player. The play fake must occupy the field hook player. That is, the Low Cross being able to outrun him after he recovers.
The Ravens play man coverage. the Low Cross is able to separate by utilizing the natural traffic of the linebackers reacting to the toss fake in the backfield.
This is a nice changeup to typical Keepers that use first-in-the-flat routes.
