2023 Falcons Counter Windback Cutup

The Falcons ran an interesting Counter-Windback scheme under the direction of head coach Arthur Smith. The concept created a lot of big plays for Bijan Robinson, and was generally successful for Atlanta during the 2023 season.

I was able to create a 14 minute cutup of the concept because Atlanta was on my watch list for teams to possibly write a book about. I ditched that idea round week 10 to focus on some other teams. Although a book was not the end result, I still studied and learned quite a bit from their successes and struggles in 2023.

Counter - Windback

The concept is a nice changeup. It gives linebackers more to think about, introducing new pullers outside of traditional gap schemes.

The concept is blocked differently depending on the front. Between the Center and BSG, the uncovered player will jab opposite, then pull for the play side defensive end.
